1. TRIMMING ON A REGULAR BASIS MAKES HAIR GROW FASTER
MYTH
This is probably the most popular hair-care myth ever created. If you’re trying to grow long hair and believe trimming is going to speed up the process, sadly, you’re wrong. Naturally, regularly trimmed hair is free from damaged and split ends but it doesn’t grow faster (even if you have them cut down every month). Hair grows around half inch per month on average. Still, it’s good to have the ends trimmed to prevent hair breakage and splitting. Doing it every few weeks makes the hair look fresh and healthy. Obviously, the frequency depends on your hair and its condition, but it’s usually recommended to get trims once in three or four months.
2. EXPENSIVE HAIR-CARE PRODUCTS ARE BETTER
MYTH
Pricey cosmetics don’t work wonders or give instant results. The thing that really matters is the formula: always check the ingredients in shampoos and conditioners, and make sure they match your hair type. What’s interesting, each of us has a unique hairdo with a unique composition. To get customized products, you need to define the type and porosity of your hair. Even the color of your hair may prove crucial. Summing up, don’t choose pricey products, pick ones that hold good components suited to your hair type.
3. DAMAGED, SPLIT HAIR ENDS CAN BE BOUND BACK TOGETHER
MYTH
This is the most common myth that is still alive! Damaged, split ends will never be fixed! If the tips are in bad condition, all you can do is cut them off. There is no product that could magically glue split ends back together. Cosmetics companies use people’s naivety to sell a conditioner or hair serum. Nevertheless, it’s good to secure them with a good product to prevent breakage and damage.
4. VINEGAR RINSE MAKES HAIR SHINE
TRUE
Vinegar turns out to be a brilliant and natural shine-boosting product! Have you heard of its effect on hair? Apple cider vinegar is a well-known, highly-valued hair enhancer. It is packed with hair-friendly ingredients such as mandelic and lactic acids, vitamins (A, B, C, E), amino acids, bioflavonoids, beta-carotene, iron, potassium, calcium, silicon and fluorine. You won’t find a conditioner or mask which has so many beneficial components!
Use it after every hair washing. The vinegar rinse is easy to prepare: mix 500 ml of boiled water with a spoon of vinegar. Wash your hair as usual and use your apple cider vinegar rinse for the last rinsing.
5. OILS MAKE HAIR GREASY
MYTH
Natural vegetable oils are greasy but if you use oil that matches your hair type, you won’t be bothered by weighed-down, greasy and flat hair. Different oils are made from different omega acid molecules. Oil made from small molecules and rich in squalane works well for heavy, easily weighed-down hair (low porosity). Oils have one more asset: they cleanse the scalp perfectly, normalizing sebum glands for less oily hair.
